Underage drinking is about high school kids, right?  Unfortunately, the problem is appearing in children in middle school and elementary school, too.  The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Association (SAMHSA) has completed many studies to show that underage drinking is NOT a problem in high school.  Statistics show that young girls will often take their first drink by the age of 14, while young boys often take their first drink by the age of 11.  Peer pressure, seeing adults/parents/peers drink, TV ads and many other factors lead to underage drinking.

Do you wonder if your teen may be drinking alcohol?  So many things tempt teens to try alcohol that more than half of underage youth have tried it.  44% of eighth graders have tried alcohol and 20% of eighth graders have been drunk at least once.  We would like to share some information about the different age groups affected by underage drinking from elementary school to high school age groups.
